Amendment XVI:

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

If you have a job in the United States the government is allowed to collect taxes from you. Any time you go out to eat, buy that cute shirt you seen at the store, or buy that new car taxes is added to that price. If you look at your check stub you will see all the taxes being taking out of your money.
